Our North Island adventure started in Castlepoint which took almost three hours from Wellington. From Masterton, the road to Castlepoint is quite curvy and seems to go up and down several mountains. Felt like we were driving for days but finally reached our destination. The scenery was spectacular especially of the lighthouse and the rock formation protruding from the ocean. I took a short hike and almost reached the lighthouse but since it was so windy, I turned around. The winds on this day were at hurricane force and at times I had to brace myself or risk falling into the sea. We took some pictures and headed to our next destination in Napier. Our GPS for some reason decided to take us on a different route back which ended up being a bad decision. The road turned from pavement to all gravel and it was this way for about an hour. I was praying our car would hold up and fortunately it did even though a black cat crossed in front of us. Once we got on highway 2, I let out a sigh of relief and we were safely on our way. All in all, a great start to our adventure and more blogging is on the way from Napier!
