We arrived in Rotorua to a quaint motel called Red Rock Thermal Hotel. This was definitely a case where you don’t judge a book by its cover. Our room was fantastic with two bedrooms, full kitchen, and a nice backyard. The host of the hotel, Sue, was extremely gracious and bonded with Aiden throughout our stay. She even provided some toys for him to play with to keep him occupied. The first day we had breakfast by Lake Rotorua and drove around the town a little bit getting the lay of the land. The steam from the geothermal ground were emanating from every area. It was kind of like being in hell. The next day we took a trip to Wai-o-Tapo which is famous for it’s geothermal activity. The pictures we took were amazing and we all enjoyed walking around the park. After Aiden’s nap, we went to the Kurirua Park and walked more around the lake. The last day we did some railcruising which was basically three of us in a solo electric train that goes along the tracks for around 90 minutes. It was definitely an interesting experience but quite noisy. Rotorua is a one of a kind city and next time we go, we’ll take advantage of the Polynesian Spa and do some more time in the mineral pools!
